Now, where were we... it's all going so fast! On the last picture I posted the joiners were putting the floor in. So much has been done after that. Nothing but praise for all the hard and neat work done!
On Friday July 18 the floor was in...
but the plaster hadn't dried up completely...
so we couldn't start painting...
until the Monday (21/7), although I did wash the walls of the shower room down with watered down PVA to make them damp proof. We worked around the carpenter putting in the door frames.
Myrna and I tried to get the first layer on before the carpenter started putting the laminate down...
but we only managed to get three of the four walls done before the Tuesday. Ah well...
Meanwhile, we had to vacate the garage and cover up the bits that couldn't be moved, because due to fire regulations - and health and safety no doubt - a new insulated ceiling had to be put in. Unfortunately, this means we loose our rafters, where we stacked a lot of wood and other stuff. But hey, I'm sure we'll find a place or a destination for it all.
And aren't we lucky with our landlord, who agreed to have a laminate floor put in! This is on Wednesday evening, laminate, skirting boards and door frames are finished and I can start painting the last wall.
Thursday 1.30 AM!! Just finishing the second layer of paint... Notice the worn out of fashion baggy trousers... Apparently they're a disgrace, but I can't part with them, so I'm now using them for painting!
Friday 25/7, The plasterers are back to put the ceiling up in the garage...
... they had to work in the boiling heat, because the doors couldn't open while they were working on the ceiling! And it was hot! Liters of water and loads of packets of crisps were consumed.
Will you look at this ballroom!! Isn't it gorgeous and worth all the work and trouble!!
And now for the finishing touches... With the ceiling back in we can start repacking the garage. Although the major part of the garage is "Ken's space", this time I've taken charge of the organizing. So first we cleaned everything that was there, shifting and dumping at the same time, creating space for the stuff that had been stored elsewhere...
Elsewhere being the garage of no. 2 (our previous / temporary house across the road), which we were kindly given the use of. All this had to go into that newly created clean space.
This is "my" domain. I converted the back bit of the garage into a pantry-like space. This is what it looked like at the end of the day on Saturday (26/7).
Here we've just loaded Old Faithful up with the contents of no.2's garage and we've started putting it back - in an organized and structured way! It was a heavy test to our marriage, but again we managed to survive it. Everything coming out of the van had to be cleaned and checked for usefulness. Also, we repacked a lot of boxes and managed to have eight of them empty by the end of the day! The skip was full by then...
And this is what it looked like... the morning after...
The caravan is full, too. We'll have to find a place or destination for everything, because the plan is that the front bit of the garage is going to be our gym. So next, we're going to tidy up the attic and the storage cupboard. After we varnished the skirting boards, doors and door frames of the new room... We'll not get bored! Stay tuned for hopefully the last episode.
